Care Products

The second reason we maintain a stone product is to keep it clean. We should not confuse shine with cleanliness. Just because a floor has a high polish does not mean that it is clean. Mopping should be performed with the right cleaners to pick up the dirt and protect the floor materials intrinsic properties.

The biggest mistake we see with wet mopping is not changing the cleaner. The cleaner must be changed often. This little tip can prevent streaking, sticky floors and the shine will last longer. Also, separate mops should be used to clean the stone floors from those used to clean other surfaces. By following these simple rules your stone floors will maintain their beauty and durability for years to come.

Safety should be at the top of the list when it comes to reasons to properly maintain your floors. We emphasize how important slip-resistance is to a stone floor. Stone flooring is one of the most slippery surfaces available.

Dirt, soiling, dirty mop water and old waxes all contribute the reduction of a stone floors slip-resistance. With proper maintenance you will ensure that your floors remain slip-resistant and safe.

Granite Maintenance

Common care for granite involves periodic washing with clean water and a soft soap or natural stone cleaner. We recommend using Revitalizer by DuPont or Apex’s 3 to 1 cleaner, polisher and protector. Using a soap or cleaner, wash in small, overlapping sweeps. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all traces of soap or cleaner solution. Dry with a soft cloth and allow to thoroughly air dry.

We recommend sealing your granite every 2 – 5 years, depending on the density of granite in your home and in combination with the daily products used to clean the countertops. The best way to test your granite is to apply water onto the countertop , if the countertop is sealed then the water should bead on the surface. If you notice the water is absorbs, or if a moisture mark is left, after the water has been removed it is time to seal your granite countertops.

Sealing your granite is an easy process and doesn’t take a lot of time. We recommend using Bullet Proof sealer by Dupont. This can be purchased at our sales room.

Granite countertops are surprisingly resilient to stains. Wipe up any spills on the countertops within a reasonable amount of time. Paying special attention to these items oil, acid, oven cleaners, and juices can greatly reduce the chance of a stain occurring.
Under general household use granite surfaces cannot be damaged by sudden and rapid temperature changes. However, we still recommend using a hot pad or trivet.
Your countertop is a highly scratch resistant surface; however can be scratched. Avoid abuse to the surface by refraining from using sharp objects directly onto the surface. Improper use can result in scratching.
Acid cleaning agents should be avoided because they could etch the surface compromising the polished finish. The use of non-acidic cleansers is recommended.
